Artifis Art Framers

About Us

Our Framing Philosophy

Any artwork that is worthy of framing, requires a reasonable investment of money.  In our price driven, discount crazed market place, a “low cost” framing job frequently not only lacks good artistic balance and merit, but more importantly seriously compromises the life of the artwork through inappropriate or poor framing practices.  The money spent on such a job could instead be used to substantially pay for the cost of a framing job that not only enhances the visual presentation of the art, but also provides a high degree of protection, ensuring a long life for the art on display.

At Artifis, we have a duty of care to advise our clients on the most appropriate options for their particular art and to satisfy each client’s requirements.  We take care and the necessary time to design the finished look to suit each individual client’s wishes and tastes.

We will not engage in framing practices that are contrary to professional framing principles.  Neither will we agree to frame valuable art work in any way which compromises the art’s value.

We are proud of the standard of our work and strive very hard to ensure that every job is worthy of our name.

We are set up to provide personal, individual and professional service to each client, in an attractive, relaxed environment.  We leave production framing to others.

SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES

We are strongly committed to developing sustainable practices in every aspect of our operation.  Wherever possible, we will use materials that are the least environmentally damaging and most renewable.  For example, we will not use frame mouldings that come from rainforest logging operations.  Neither will we wrap the finished work in plastic film - convenient though that is.

Personal Profile Of Artifis's Framer - Warwick Mather

Warwick Mather

Warwick trained and graduated in the Comprehensive Framing Course from the NZ Professional School of Picture Framing.  His training had a special focus on Conservation and Museum level framing.

He is also a qualified framer, holding the internationally recognised GCF (Guild Commended Framer) which is the British Fine Art Trade Guild administered, examination-based qualification. Warwick is a member of the New Zealand Institute of  Professional Framers.

Warwick also holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and is near completion of a Graduate Diploma in Arts (Music).  Warwick has been a keen photographer all his adult life and both he and his wife Elizabeth are active photographers with work including landscape, portraiture and fine art photography.  Artifis’s gallery showcases some of their work.

As a performing musician, Warwick’s special interest is in early music (Baroque, Renaissance and Mediaeval) and he has played with an early music consort for many years.  He has also trained in New Zealand and Australia in choral conducting and over the past seven years has conducted a Hawkes Bay regional chamber choir plus other community and school choirs.

Warwick is a perfectionist by nature and demanding of the highest standards of workmanship not only in his own work but in that of those who work for him.  He has overseen and personally provided much of the labour on the development of Waipawa’s historic homestead Mount View which houses the framing studio and gallery.

Location

We are situated in Waipawa, Central Hawkes Bay in the original Mount View homestead, set on on acre of grounds on Windsor Hill, 2 minutes drive from SH2.  Waipawa is 30 minutes south of Hastings and 5 minutes north of Waipukurau.  The framing studio and gallery is in the original billiards room in the 103 year old homestead that was the home of Waipawa's first mayor, businessman and founding pioneer William Isaac Limbrick and was the homestead for his 800 acre farm on Windsor Hill.  The studio is light and spacious with attractive views across the property.
